Message from Wendy Weiss, Professor Emerita of Textile Design:
“I am very excited to tell you that we have a new series of textile design workshops to offer through the recently announced Nebraska Fiberarts Initiative, part of the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design. Elin Noble just finished her extraordinary visit here in Lincoln and we have posted the registration page for our October 13-16, 2016 workshop featuring Indian artist Lavanya Mani.
My husband and I met Lavanya while living in Baroda, Gujarat and I had the chance to help her finish a major textile piece for the International Art Bienniale in Kochi, Kerala. It was very exciting to witness her process and to finally glean an understanding of how to paint with natural dye solutions on muslin.
In Lincoln you will get a fantastic introduction on how to combine several mordants with a range of dyes, some of which Lavanya will provide from her Indian suppliers. Fortunately, now we have vendors we can purchase these same products from in the USA and Canada.
To learn more about the workshop, please visit our FB page at: https://www.facebook.com/NebraskaFiberartsInitiative/ or go to the announcement at: http://go.unl.edu/dyeworkshop where you will be guided to a link that will take you to the on-line registration process.
Please do forward this email to friends who might have a passion for surface design/natural dyer or post on your Facebook timeline or other social media platform, thanks!”
